3. Gather and Care for the People You Love
I think there’s something deeply meaningful about feeding people, welcoming them into our homes, remembering what they like, making a favorite recipe, or simply saying, “Come over. I’ll make something.”
Hospitality doesn’t need to mean a perfectly set table or an impressive menu. Sometimes it’s soup and bread. Sometimes it’s coffee at the kitchen counter. Sometimes it’s ordering pizza and staying at the table talking long after everyone has finished eating.
The older I get, the more convinced I am that time with the people we love is one of life’s greatest luxuries.
Make room for it.
4. Fill Your Days With Things That Matter to You
A meaningful life may look different for each of us.
It might come from family, faith, friendship, creative work, caring for a home, reading, gardening, traveling, cooking, volunteering, or simply being present for the people who need us.
And it can change as both we and our lives change.
There are seasons when our world feels very full, and others when we have the freedom to ask, What do I want these years to hold?
I think that’s a wonderful question to keep asking ourselves.
A meaningful life doesn’t have to be grand. It simply needs to contain the things we genuinely care about—and enough space to notice them while they’re happening.
A Beautiful Life, Comfortably Lived
Creating a beautiful, meaningful life isn’t about constantly trying to improve ourselves or making every day picture-perfect.
It’s about creating a home we love living in, enjoying the pleasures of ordinary days, caring for the people around us, and continuing to make room for what matters most.
A good meal. A welcoming home. Something beautiful to look at. Someone we love sitting across the table.
That sounds like a pretty beautiful life to me.
I’ve come to believe that a beautiful life isn’t something we create all at once. It’s built slowly, through the choices we make about our homes, our time, our relationships, and the ordinary things we surround ourselves with every day.
And it doesn’t have to be elaborate. Some of the most beautiful parts of life are wonderfully simple: a comfortable room, dinner simmering on the stove, fresh flowers on the table, a good book waiting beside the bed, or an evening spent with the people we love.
Here are four ways I think we can bring a little more beauty and meaning into everyday life.
1. Create a Home That Feels Good
A beautiful home doesn’t have to be perfect. It just needs to feel like you.
I love a home that’s comfortable, collected, and full of character—the kind of place where you can put your feet up, make a pot of coffee, and invite someone to stay for dinner.
Over time, I’ve become much more interested in how a home feels than whether everything matches. The books I've collected, the pieces brought home from travels, family photographs, a favorite chair, good linens, and dinner glasses that used to belong to my grandmother that I reach for again and again—those are the things that, to me, give a home its soul.
Create rooms that support the life you actually want to live. Keep what you love. Make things comfortable. And leave room for your home to continue evolving as you do.
2. Make the Everyday Things a Little More Beautiful
Beauty doesn’t have to be saved for holidays, company, or special occasions.
Use the pretty dishes on a Tuesday. Light a candle while you’re making dinner. Put some flowers you bought at the grocery store in the crystal vase you've had for years but barely use. Wear a beautiful loungewear set around your house, even when you're all alone.
These things may sound simple—and they are. That's why I love them.
A beautiful life is made up mostly of ordinary moments, so it makes sense to bring beauty into those days whenever we can. Our everyday lives are just as worthy of our attention as the grand moments and special celebrations.
